The initiative is to replace the electricity consumption from the grid by that from solar roof top panels combined with the net metering to offset the non-daytime consumption from the grid. The school has obtained consent from the Madhya Pradesh Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd, the designated State Nodal Agency of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India and Department of New and Renewable Energy, Government of Madhya Pradesh to implement the Roof Top Solar electricity generation system under their RESCO (Renewable Energy Service Company) model. This model allows the school to have a roof top solar generation system without making any upfront investment and reduces the charges payable for the electricity consumed by 50% i.e. from INR 7.5 per kwh to INR 4 per kwh for the next 25 years. It has created a source of funding other activities for reduction of carbon emission for the school. The amount so generated is expected to be approximately INR 500,000 per year. This activity is likely to nullify the electricity drawn from the grid and thereby reduce the carbon emission by 150,000 kg of CO2 year.
